Jake Nichols currently serves as the Interim Health Physics and Safety Manager at the Missouri University Research Reactor (MURR) as of December 2024. In this role, he oversees the Health Physics, Environmental Health and Safety, and Shipping divisions, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and regulatory standards.
Jake joined MURR in 2018 as a Health Physicist, initially focusing on the safe production of iodine-131. Over time, he expanded his expertise to include other production processes, such as Mo-99 and Y-90. From 2023 to 2024, he served as Assistant Radiation Safety Officer, before being appointed Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) in 2024, a position he continues to hold.
Jake holds a B.S. in Physics from the University of Missouri-Columbia and an M.S. in Environmental Health Physics from Clemson University. He is a Certified Health Physicist through the American Board of Health Physics and actively contributes to industry standards as a member of the ANSI/ANS 15.11 working group, which focuses on radiation protection at research reactor facilities.
