MURR Mission Statement


Our fundamental mission is to provide quality service to MU, to Missouri, and to humanity. This service is accomplished within two major arenas:

  • Service to the R&D Community
    This is in accord with the Chancellor's Strategic Goal #1: "Strengthen research, graduate, and professional programs and improve MU's stature among public AAU Research Institutions." We will achieve this by focusing on interdisciplinary R&D programs, centered largely in partnering Departments, Universities, etc., which could not be conducted without the unique MURR facilities and personnel. Thus, our major mission is to provide leverage for the expertise and talents resident in other departments and institutions. Within this mission we will place high priority on collaborative research programs in the life sciences, and highest priority on those which potentially will lead to breakthroughs in healthcare. Our focus on interdisciplinary R&D will also contribute to MU's educational mission through providing a wide range of research and training opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students.
     
  • Service to the Global Community
    This is in accord with the Chancellor's Strategic Goal #3: "Develop and manage resources appropriately so that Strategic Goal #1 (and #2) can be accomplished; MU is a responsible steward of public resources." We will achieve this largely by using our unique facilities, infrastructure and personnel to provide income in support of Strategic Goal #1. Wherever possible, income generating activities will be harmonious with, and complementary to, research activities by operating within the same technical area; e.g., the production of radiopharmaceuticals can provide training and research opportunities for future workers in healthcare.

The reactor is in the process of relicensing for another 20 years of nuclear-based research, education and medical and other applications. Check here for project updates.
